Physical Damage Insurance Coverage

What is Physical Damage Insurance Coverage?

Physical damage insurance coverage is not required on your truck unless your vehicle is leased. If it is, then you are most likely required to have Physical Damage insurance. On the other hand, if your vehicle is fully paid for, Physical Damage coverage is optional.

Let our commercial truck insurance specialists educate you on what insurance coverage you need for your company.

Who needs Physical Damage Insurance Coverage?

Any time you drive, you are exposed to risk. Your truck could be damaged in an accident or from another disaster. It could be stolen or vandalized. Any of these issues could put your truck out of commission and compromise your business.

Physical Damage coverage offers 24-hour collision coverage for damages to your tractor or trailer.
  • Collision, Comprehensive or Specified perils
  • Aggregate and combined deductibles
  • Rental reimbursement
  • Gap coverage
  • Personal effects for drivers
  • Towing coverage
  • Electronic Equipment coverage
  • Downtime Loss Expense

Physical Damage Coverage Example

Why do you need it?

In the same scenario we used for your Liability Insurance Coverage and Truck Cargo Coverage, let’s see how your Physical Damage Coverage works for you.

So, you run a trucking business that does local deliveries of refrigerated goods to grocery stores and supermarkets.

One of your drivers is making his last delivery for the day and a car cuts him off and stops abruptly at a red light.

The driver is unable to stop, runs into the car and the car is damaged so much that the insurance company totals it. The driver was not injured but was still sent to the hospital just in case.

Your truck had a dented bumper, a broken grill, a broken headlight and the radiator needed replacing because something punctured it during the impact.

Even though Physical Damage Coverage is not required you decided to get it at a $50,000 limit, which was more than enough to cover the $7000 bill for the trucks repairs. All you have to do is pay the $1000 deductible.
